A national Plant Hire company had a requirement for multiple prefab workshop buildings when they acquired a nationwide heavy machinery rental firm. With the
sites of the newly acquired business being closed completely, the Plant Hire client
needed to amalgamate the additional operational activity onto their existing sites,
and quickly. The site they were focusing on first was in Lincolnshire with Devon
following closely behind.
The client considered permanent buildings but very soon realised it would be far too slow and expensive given the volume of buildings they needed. Researching alternative options, the client found aluminum framed industrial buildings or
temporary buildings as they’re often referred as.
Temporary buildings have an incredibly fast installation method of usually less
than a week as they are modular in design and can be anchored down to existing
concrete surfaces without needing any foundations. Not only does this build
method achieve major time savings but also financial as there is minimal labor,
equipment, hours, architectural and engineering input required. Additionally,
most businesses are able to continue working at full capacity during the build
programs, ensuring no slow-down in operational activity or production.
Despite the amazingly fast and simple installation the Kiwi Modular Structures buildings are strong
and durable and custom manufactured for each site and project, ensuring a
minimum guaranteed life-span of 10 years – although many existing buildings
have been in situ and operational for over 20 years!
Competing with three other providers Kiwi Modular Structures won the business by
demonstrating how their in-house design and manufacturing capability and
capacity could provide the right buildings at the right time and engineered to meet
their site-specific structural stability requirements – in terms of snow loads and
wind speeds. The prefab workshop building for Immingham was designed,
manufactured and supplied to the following specification:
After experiencing the fast turnaround and installation of this first prefab workshop building, coupled with the functionality and durability once the building
was operational, the client realised they had found the perfect solution for the
ongoing nationwide integration of the newly acquired rental company. The site at
Devon followed quickly with 10.00m x 20.00m x 6.20m insulated workshop and
there are 2 more buildings/sites scheduled for early 2019 with more in the pipeline
for later in the year.
The speed and ease of creating the additional space has enabled the client to
quickly distribute the additional work on the relevant sites and fully capitalize on
the acquisition of the new firm.
